If only a Washington state apple a day would keep the doctor away, then none of the states residents would need a Washington Health Insurance policy. Unfortunately, that is not the case and if you are one of residents lucky enough to be insured either through an employer, union or through your spouses policy consider yourself lucky.
If however you are one of the 866,000+ residents without medical insurance, it is time to research your options for a Washington Health Insurance plan. The first course of action would to be to apply for a medical plan through a private health insurance provider. Consumers seeking a Washington Health Insurance plan need to fill out an application. The local insurance providers to calculate various risk factors then evaluate the application via a point system. If an individual ranks more than 288 points, they can be rejected for from coverage. An applicant can also be rejected from coverage if the insurance provider has too many enrolled customers (but this needs to be proved by Commissioner of Insurance).
Washington State has some laws regarding Washington Health Insurance in r regards to pre-existing conditions. Private insurers can review an applicants health history for six months prior and may exclude those conditions for up to nine months (if the applicant had no health insurance for 63 days prior). In Washington, pregnancy can be deemed a pre-existing condition and soon-to-be mothers may not get the care they need if they sign up for a plan at that time.
The premiums for Washington Health Insurance are determined by such factors as ones age, number of people covered under your plan and other individual factors. However, the Washington Health Insurance companies cannot charge higher rates to an applicant based on their health status but they are free to determine their own premium rates at will.
