GMAC Report: Americans Plan to Drive Less in 2010 for Auto Insurance Discounts

A national survey conducted by GMAC Insurance indicates that American drivers are planning on driving less in the coming year with the possibility of low-mileage auto insurance discounts. According to the survey, 30% of the 5,000 drivers polled report that they plan to cut back on transportation in the coming 12 months if they find that they qualify for such discounts.

The discounts representoffers from numerous insurance companiesto provide lower rates to drivers based on the number of miles they drive. As a result, those drivers who accumulate fewer miles could end up paying quite a bit less on their premiums. GMAC is one of the companies that is offering their ownpay as you go insurance option.

In addition to taking advantage of pay as you go insurance discounts, there are other types of discounts to lower your auto insurance rates:

• Safe driver discounts – Many insurance companies reward their safe drivers (those who have not been found at fault for an accident or committed any traffic violations for at least five years) by providing them with sizable discounts. Shop around and find out for yourself!
• Good student discount – Students who receive good grades are often provided with discounts. To qualify, most insurance companies require that you be a student, 16 years or greater, with a 3.0 or greater GPA, placement on the Dean’s list or Honor Roll, or ranking in the top 20% of their class.
• Multiple policy discount - Most insurance companies will provide you with a discount if you purchase more than one policy with them. For instance, you might purchase both an auto and homeowners policy and receive a discount for both.

With the economy in a pinch – and probably your wallet too -it’s good to know there are discounts out there to help you save on auto insurance coverage.
