State Farm Insurance was founded by a farmer and insurance salesman by the name of George Jacob “G.J.” Mecherle. Even early on, he believed in fairness and customer service above all things in a business. As a farmer himself, Mecherle knew that farmers drove less and were involved in fewer accidents per year than other drivers, and as a result they should pay less. But because his employers disagreed, he took the notion that less at-risk drivers should pay less and founded his own insurance company.
State Farm was created with the intention to provide good insurance at a fair price, along with customer service and a great claims settlement process. Today, the company still operates under the basic values set for by its founders, and as a result has enjoyed great commercial success.
Per State Farm, they are now the largest insurer of homes in the US. They also insure more cars than any other insurer in North America. They have more than 17,000 agents and 68,000 employees United States and Canada, and service over 75 million policies. State Farm also offers a variety of other financial products to help its customers better prepare for life down the road. The company continues to grow strong today.
