Both Wisconsin and Louisiana plan to raise the minimum liability limit requirements for their states’ drivers in 2010. When this is accomplished, drivers will likely see an increase in their current premiums.
Here are the new Wisconsin liability limits for auto insurance, effective Jan. 1, 2010:
In addition, drivers will be required to provide proof of this new insurance as of the effective date. If they are caught driving without this new coverage, they may be subject to a fine of up to $500. If they have the coverage but don’t have their insurance card, they may be subject to a $10 fine. And if they try to provide fraudulent proof of coverage, they may be fined up to $5,000.

The increases are said to likely represent a 15 percent increase in premiums.
If you live in one of these states and need new coverage, now is the time to shop for affordable auto insurance that meets your state’s minimum liability requirements. The last thing you want is to be caught driving without the appropriate coverage.
