New Survey Shows Drivers Unaware of Auto Insurance Discounts

A new national survey revealed that many Americans fail to use discounts available to them via their auto and homeowners insurance policies. According to the Trusted Choice and the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, which revealed the survey, most policyholders either consciously fail to take advantage of the discounts or have no idea that they exist.

Here are some stats from the survey:

• 34 percent, or 53 million households, don’t take advantage of auto and homeowners insurance discounts available to them.
• 20 percent of car owners didn’t know or were not taking advantage of all the car insurance discounts available.
• 38 percent of households with incomes less than $25,000 weren’t taking advantage of all of the homeowners insurance discounts available.

However, while many respondents did not take advantage of discounts, some did. According to the survey, about 26 percent of respondents said they estimate saving between six and 10 percent on their insurance premiums by using discounts.
