For most of 2009, various Michigan residents and organizations have been pushing for more affordable auto insurance premiums for state drivers. Recently, we reported that a coalition was pushing for a 20 percent discount in rates to be placed on the 2010 ballot. Now, legislative officials are making a push to protect consumer protections and more affordable coverage.

According to recent research revealed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners according to 2007 data, the average U.S. auto premium rate dropped by nearly three percent from 2006. According to the findings, which is the most recent data available from the association, Washington, D.C. was paying the most for their insurance in 2007.

Recent information released by the U.S. Department of Labor may leave some consumers scratching their heads about increases in their auto insurance premiums. According to data from the Labor Department, the Consumer Price Index, and indicator that measures the cost of what consumers buy and use, dropped by 2 percent between Oct. 2008 and Oct. 2009.

When at the car rental counter, it is not uncommon for the representative to (forcefully) recommend the company’s auto insurance coverage, but according to a recent report, it’s better to check with your auto insurance company before paying for coverage.
According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), consumers may be wasting their money on coverage they have already paid for in their auto insurance policy.

According to a newly-published report, an alarming one in seven drivers are going without car insurance.
The report comes from the Insurance Research Council and marks a growing trend of uninsured drivers on the roads.
While any car accident can pose a great threat to those involved regardless of insurance, any driver involved in an accident without insurance carries with him a great financial burden to insurance companies, as well as both drivers involved. According to the Insurance Industry Committee on Motor Vehicle Administration, a way to solve the problem is to identify uninsured drivers then try to get them insured.

The Department of Insurance and the California Highway Patrol are heavily promoting a low-cost auto insurance program. The reason the program is being pushed aggressively is due to fears that high unemployment and concern that more motorists will drive without auto insurance are growing in the San Joaquin Valley, Ca. area.
