The Insurance Institute for Public Safety is warning auto makers that they are not producing enough cars to accommodate older drivers. According to the institute, most vehicles are produced without quality features that can keep a more fragile older driver safe, as a result, older drivers may be in greater danger of being injured or killed on the road.

A new survey conducted September 3 – 30, 2009 by LowerMyBills.com, a part of Experian, shows that of 2,022 online auto insurance shoppers, 79 percent believe they pay too much for auto insurance. The good news is that according to the survey, 54 percent of respondents have tried to reduce their auto insurance premium in the past year. So while there is a discontent with premiums, a little more than half are trying to do something about it.

Massachusetts drivers have been able to take advantage of lower-than-average auto insurance premiums, even in the midst of the recession. The reason costs have remained low in such a tumultuous time is the competition. There are an exceedingly high number of insurers in the state vying for customers, which means they must lower their prices to remain competitive.

You probably can’t help but wonder what the correlation between video games and auto insurance premiums could be, but according to a new set of games sent out by Allstate to its customers in Pennsylvania, the correlation can be high. The bundle of five games, titled “InSight,” was created to help older drivers improve mental awareness while on the road. If the customers play the game, they could save money with their auto insurance by being better drivers.

Californians are disappointed to learn that an auto insurance bill that helps offer affordable coverage to low-income will not be extended. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the extension of the bill, which would have stretched it out to 2016, instead settling on its current expiration date of January 1, 2011.

A recent survey conducted by LeaseTrader.com found that there are a couple of things more distracting than texting on the roads: road rage and children. This information comes on the heels of recent reports that the government is in the process of banning the use of mobile devices for texting while driving.

A new study predicts that there will be more uninsured drivers on the road in 2010. The study, conducted by the Insurance Research Council (IRC), shows that more people are taking to the roads without coverage simply because they feel they have no other choice.
Researchers say unemployment is the reason. Their study showed that there is a direct correlation between unemployment rate increases and an increase in the number of uninsured motorists, which means as unemployment increases in the coming months more people will be driving without coverage.

A recent report released by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) cites that 2005 – 2007 model-year vehicles are costing drivers more money in auto insurance premiums. According to the research firm, the cars on the list, for a myriad of results can result in much higher insurance rates.

Reports show that we can expect to see auto insurance rates rise in October 2009. This is due to an annual trend with drivers to file more insurance claims during this month as a result of a loss of daylight and an increase in accidents.
Research fromVirgin Money has shown that October 20th is traditionally the worst day of the year when it comes to accidents that involve a car insurance claim. For the month as a whole, wetypically seean increase of 25 percent morein claims than the yearly average.
