Progressive Insurance Offers Non-Customers Discount Through Snapshot Program
Progressive Insurance is hoping to lure in new customers by expanding its popular usage-based auto insurance program. Individuals who are currently insured with other companies may be able to take advantage of the Snapshot program, which is a pay-as-you-drive auto insurance discount.
Progressive Insurance Expands Usage-Based Program
Progressive Insurance is known for being one of the first companies to offer its version of a usage-based auto insurance program.
The Snapshot program offers individuals who are willing to install an on-board diagnostic (OBD) port into their vehicle a chance to receive a discount on their coverage by allowing their driving behaviors to be tracked for 30 days.
After the 30-day period ends, the company analyzes drivers’ behaviors, then offers a discount for the following six-month insurance period. Discounts can reach as high as 30 percent.
Currently, the company says hundreds of thousands of people take part in the Snapshot program with roughly 70 percent receiving a discount. Progressive now is expanding its pay-as-you-drive auto insurance program in hopes of getting some new customers to sign up for auto coverage.
Pay-as-You-Drive Auto Insurance Now Offered to Non-Customers
On Monday, Progressive Insurance announced that it is allowing individuals who are currently customers with other auto insurance companies to take advantage of its pay-as-you-drive auto insurance discount.
In order to participate, individuals will have to plug the OBD port into a vehicle they own that was built after 1996, then allow the company to track driving behaviors. Examples of tracked driving behaviors include: miles driven, braking patterns and even the time of day the car was driven.
Progressive will then tell the driver how much of a discount they are eligible for.
The new trial program will be available in 35 of the 42 states where Progressive Insurance is currently offering its Snapshot program to existing customers.
