It’s always important to look for ways to stay safe on the roads, which is why the iPhone has added a new app that tells you when you’re drunk. By taking advantage of this feature, hopefully you will be safer on the roads with the added bonus of saving on your auto insurance.

The Benefits of iPhone’s R-U-Buzzed

Imagine getting ready to leave a business after a night of drinking. According to the iPhone application, this is the perfect time to whip out the R-U-Buzzed app, to see who (if anyone) is sober enough to drive home. By entering your weight and what you drank into the application, you will receive fairly-accurate estimates of your blood-alcohol content. Depending on how intoxicated you are, you may receive the infamous “Don’t even think about driving” result.

Younger Drinkers

Those who are able to take advantage of this new iPhone app could help save many lives. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there is an average of 36 alcohol-related deaths everyday, and 17% of that population is under 21. Officials hope that with new ways to reach the youth through Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and even the iPhone – the death toll could decline some. Washington State officials plan to go even further by embedding virtual billboards in online video games.

There are other devices out there to help you know whether you’ve had too much to drink, like pocket breathalyzers. But your best bet – if you’re unsure of whether you’ve had too much to drink – is to play it safe and get a ride home.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry in an avoidable scenario, so why not take the responsible route by refusing to drink and drive?
