Due to an increase in usage-based auto insurance (insurance that is charged based on customer vehicle use and driving behavior), Sprint and Walsh Wireless have created a solution that could help insurance companies appropriately charge customers. If all goes well with this solution, companies would be able to streamline their billing process and customers could begin seeing lower premiums over time.
The two companies announced Wednesday that theyplan to release their new product, the Walsh Wireless Data Logger. The new solution, which will be powered exclusively by Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband, was officiallydeveloped to meet the unique needs of the growing usage-based market as well as the desire to lower car insurance premiums.
Ultimately, this new usage-based insurance (UBI) model will be able to help insurance companies be more competitive and innovative by improving their risk assessment process. By improving this process, they hope to reduce their customerturnover, as wellas the number ofclaims they receive.
One major benefit of the new solution is that it could help customers lower premiums, something every customer is looking forward to. Because the Walsh Data Logger offers the ability to wirelessly monitor in real-time the performance of a vehicle, its location and the driver’s driving pattern through a self-installed device, drivers could keep track of theirs and others’performance behind the wheel to ensure their auto insurance rates remain low.
