In October, we reported that Geico was looking for young artists to participate in its contest that promoted safety belt use. Now, Geico has announced the names of winners of its Safety Belt Posterand VideoContest along with continuing its promotion of safety belts.

Thousands of Young Talents Promoted Safety Belts

Many students were able to participate in this contest, which produce a number of winners from various age categories. Whether they submitted hand-drawn posters, computer-generated posters or short videos, as long as they were between the ages of six and 18, they were able to participate.

One of the national grand-prize winners came from Miami-Dade County in Florida. Michael Frank, a student in the area, received a handsome cash award for his submission into the computer-generated category. His poster depicted a seat belt angel with outstretched wings and won because it offered a clear and focused message of safety.

Promoting Safety Belts Could Lower Auto Insurance

While it may seem like a crazy idea to connect the two, safety belts and auto insurance are directly related. How, you ask? Well first, seatbelts prevent individuals in the car from causing damage to the vehicle by flying into its interior during an accident, which of course could increase auto insurance rates, especially personal injury protection (PIP).

But much more important that this is the fact that not wearing a seatbelt can cause serious injuries, or even death, which not only could increase your auto insurance coverage, but also create a tragic circumstance for you and your family.

Geico has done a great thing by encouraging the youth to take a closer look at the importance of safety belts. Hopefully everyone will follow their lead and begin to not only buckle their seatbelts, but stop cell phone use while driving.
