History of GEICO

GEICO Founders

GEICO was originally founded during the mid 1930’s during the Great Depression. GEICO’s is known as Government Employees Insurance Company, and was originally marketed towards government employees and certain members of the military with the understanding that they were less risky to insure as a group. Its founders Leo and Lillian Goodwin, and husband and wife team, would take the company to great heights with their leadership.

Warren Buffett and GEICO

The company would later excel in its underwriting and became famous for its strong dedication towards customer service. GEICO would enjoy steady growth well into the present era, where billionaire investor Warren Buffett took an interest and purchased its outstanding stock. It is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.
