If saving on health insurance is important to you then lets take a look at some assessments you can make that may help you cut corners financially.
Check Your Familys Physical Health. If you or someone in your family has a chronic illness like diabetes, emphysema, or high blood pressure, then it will be more important that you carry coverage that not only can pay for regular prescriptions and specialist visits, but also potential hospital stays. You might even want supplemental hospital indemnity insurance. However, if everyone in the family is relatively healthy, you may be able to choose a plan that isnt as comprehensive.
Analyze Your Familys Mental Health. If someone in your family has some type of psychiatric disorder, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or manic depression then you know what coverage you need will include the freedom to visit a psychiatrist. Again, however, if this is not an issue, you may be able to save money by cutting this out of your policy.
Try an HMO. While some people shy away from the HMO because it is too restrictive in doctor choices and services available, if you have determined that your day-to-day medical needs are not extensive enough for a blow-out comprehensive plan, you may find that an HMO will suit what coverage you need. The reason they are recommended for health insurance savings is because they dont require a deductible, have low co-pays, and offer a low monthly premium.
Determining what coverage you need requires that you sit down and examine your familys situation closely. While its greatsaving on health insurance, you dont want to cut away coverage you really need.
