The Obama administration has announced its plans to conduct a survey on American doctors in the near future. The survey will be the government’s attempt to confirm reports of the difficulties people have when trying to obtain health care.

A man so desperate for medical care that he was willing to rob a bank to go to jail is finally getting his wish this week: A doctor’s appointment. The 59-year old North Carolina convenience store clerk said his bank robbery of a mere $1 was his attempt to get the medical treatment he hadn’t been able to receive via the traditional route.

Arguments pertaining to the constitutionality of the federal health care law will be heard on Tuesday in a federal appeals court in Richmond, Virginia. This health reform court hearing will be the first held in an appellate court and is a continuation of two court decisions ruling in favor or against the law.

President Barack Obama plans to make a speech on Wednesday that addresses numerous debt issues, including that of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Media reports predict his discussion will lean towards reducing spending in both programs to contribute to reducing a $4 trillion deficit over the next 10 years.

A new proposal introduced by Republicans in the House of Representatives asks that the Medicaid program be cut by $1 trillion. Lawmakers say this proposed cutback could help trim money from the deficit over the next 10 years.

A federal appeals court in Atlanta was asked to rule in favor of the health care reform by the Obama administration. The appeal is the administration’s attempt to acquire more judges in favor of reform, which had been struck down in other courts.

To help celebrate the one-year anniversary of health care reform, the White House has issued information regarding its youth health initiative known as “Better Benefits, Better Health.” The initiative focuses on the aspect of health reform allowing young adults to remain on parents’ policies and is asking these adult children to learn more about health insurance opportunities available to them.

Health care reform law is seeing opposition from judges and state lawmakers around the country who have decided the mandatory portion is unconstitutional. There have been disputes about whether it is fair to require coverage in the past, but now that Republicans have taken control of the House of Representatives, lawmakers have pushed even harder to get rid of mandatory health insurance and even eliminate the law as a whole.
