The number of uninsured Americans continues to rise, according to a new report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control that revealed 59 million went without health insurance for at least part of 2010. The Centers’ stats, released on Tuesday evening, say this number represents a 4 million increase from the previous year.

Californians with no health insurance and preexisting conditions that would otherwise prevent them from obtaining coverage were given a new opportunity on Monday, October 25th with the debut of a new health plan. This new coverage is designed to bridge the former health insurance model with the new one to be revealed in 2014, which will no longer allow insurers to decline coverage to people with preexisting conditions.

Repealing changes to health care reform is one of the first goals of the newly-remodeled House of Representatives according to many experts in Washington on Wednesday morning. After taking 58 seats from Democrats and gaining overwhelming control of the House, some say the GOP can’t wait to make big changes to health care. The only problem is it may be more difficult than they would hope.

Recent changes to health insurance implemented through President Obama’s health care reform bill have made it possible for twenty-somethings who would otherwise have no coverage to be added back on to their parents’ policies. Now, anyone age 26 and under is eligible to remain on Mom or Dad’s employer-sponsored health insurance plan, even if they’re no longer a student or living at home.

If you think health insurance from your employer costs a ton now, get ready for 2011 plan premiums that are expected to increase 14 percent. This news comes from a new Kaiser Family Foundation report that shows premiums for family plans are expected to increase significantly despite the total bill only rising 3 percent.

The constitutionality of health care reform is something a U.S. District Court judge is allowing 20 states to contest. Specifically, they will be allowed to contest whether the mandate that requires virtually all Americans to buy health insurance is giving the government too much power.

Some workers hoping for health insurance benefit increases won’t get their wish this year after President Barack Obama waived increases for certain companies. So far, this waiver, which provides certain companies with a one-year exemption from a new rule that requires them to raise the maximum health insurance coverage amount offered to employees to at least $750,000 by next year, will affect about 1 million workers.

California officially became the first state to form a health insurance exchange beginning this week. Upon Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signing two key health bills on Thursday, health insurance options for the state may now widen for both small businesses and millions of uninsured individuals.
