As a tech savvy politician, President Obama has made it a point to support the health care industry, which will have positive effects on the rest of the country. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allots a $20 billion budget to help kick off advancements in health information technology that has been hindering the nation’s health care system for decades. The money will be spent on setting up adigital record system, or more specifically, doctors and hospitals will be able to set up electronic medical records for their patients, who can expect immediate results from the improved efficiency.
For years, health advocates and physicians alike have known the value of a modernized system for their patients. Medical records will become easilyaccessible thus upgrading the speed and quality of care a patient can expect. The system will provide a network of improved communication within the entire medical industry. Down the long road, it is also expected to lower the labor costs of medical providers which will hopefully be passed onto consumers.
This action will not only bring the health care industry into the modern era, but there should be a surge of employment opportunities to help get the system in place and the information loaded in. The companies selling the systems will be be able to predict an increase in business and profit, thus contributing to the growth of the economy as well as related jobs.
The stimulus will also help the health care industry improve communication within the nation’s entire medical network, and may be the first step to implementing the backbone needed for universal health care. Part of the Obama-Biden platform is reforming the U.S. health care industry to not only be more cost efficient, but to provide quality and affordable health insurance to all Americans. With a new electronic medical record system in place, it will be easier to roll out a plan that could work.
Do you think the stimulus package should be used to support these new health care initiatives?
