Just last week, Oregon's House of Representatives voted to extend health coverage to all of the states uninsured children and 35,000 uninsured adults will not be eligible to receive coverage courtesy of theOregon Health Plan. Additionally,a new agency responsible for managing the state's health care system was also approved. It is now up to the Senate to pass the bill.
The measure to increase insurance coverage would be financially offset by tax increase taxes on hospitals and health insurers. By generating an additional $150 million per year in related taxes, the state would become eligible for an additional $500 million in unclaimed federal dollars. Oregon's House of Representatives passed the"Healthy Kids Healthy Oregon"vote 36-24.
If passed, the measure would also approve theOregon Health Authority as a way to help ensure that the states overall health care system delivered affordable treatment and would serve to promote national health care reform. The money from that program would come from atwo-year funding package of $3 million from the states general fund.
