State law proclaims, “All Massachusetts residents are required to maintain health insurance.”

Perhaps it is this proactive measure that helped the state increase it’s 7th position ranking (2008) to become number 3 in the nation.

The state boasts a low uninsured population of only 5.4 percent and 21.4 percent of the population is obese ($1,448 million is spent on obesity annually).
