This state improved it’s ranking from 2008 when Louisiana was rated the sickest state in the country.
The improved status could be because documented cases of smoking and preventable hospitalizations decreased. But for nearly two decades the obesity rate has steadily increased (28.9 percent costs the state $1,183 million annually) and with a low high school graduation rate, the state can easily ease back into the number one spot.
