Robert Benmosche, CEO of American International Group Inc. (AIG) recently announced that the company would become less reliant on U.S. aid as it sell its units, borrows from debt markets and works hard to strengthen operations it intends to hold on to. On a strong path to repaying the $182.3 billion it received in rescue funds, Benmosche said that AIG will hold up its end of the bargain sooner than later.

On Wednesday, MetLife announced the availability of a new resource that would highlight the consequences of inadequate life insurance coverage from the beneficiarys perspective. The resource is aimed toward employers who offer life insurance and asks that they take on some responsibility to help employees build a strong financial safety net.

U.S. life insurers are not thrilled about a proposed pre-funded systemic risk plan that could result in major companies paying millions of dollars to liquidate the industry. Unfortunately, if the plan was approved and life insurance companies were obligated to pay into this fund, it could have an effect down the line on how much customers were obligated to pay.

The question is, will their millions of dollars spent on lobbying efforts good news for them, work in the publics favor, or work in the interest of all involved?

Insurer MetLife, Inc. announced last week that it plans tomake approximately $1.5 billion in policy dividend payments to eligible life insurance policy holders for 2010. The policy dividend payments will bedistributed by the companys life insurance subsidiary, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
