Just when President Barack Obama thought he was able to have the last laugh in his battle against insurance companies, it looks like the get a few chuckles themselves as they find loopholes in the health bill to take advantage of.

In a recent report from the New York Times, they discuss how health insurance giants have found loopholes to avoid paying for child with preexisting medical conditions, one of the very issues Obama tried to defeat in the health care reform bill.

Insurers Increase Rates after Global Earthquakes

A recent report from the Los Angeles Times shows that some insurance companies have been hiking rates on earthquake insurance by as much as 200 percent ever since earthquakes devastated Chile and Haiti.

According to the report, California-based insurer Geo Vera Insurance Company nearly tripled a customer’s premiums by increasing the rate from $2,500 to $7,100 a year.

On Tuesday, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company announced its steadfast support of the “Access to Repair Parts Act” (H.R. 3059/S. 1368) as a part of a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary.

If the legislation is passed, the auto insurance company says it would protect customer choice by preserving a competitive market for replacement crash parts.
