The debate over health care reform continues to roil the nation, even though the recent election of Republican Senator Scott Brown has put passage of the legislation in doubt. Currently, the Senate version of the bill is idling in the House of Representatives, where Democrats are trying to decide on how best to proceed. If they pass the Senate bill as-is, with none of the revisions they wanted, it will go to directly to President Obama who will sign it into law. That scenario is far from certain, however, and what the final bill will look like remains to be seen.

Democratic Senators had been working diligently to sculpt a health bill that they thought would please enough of the nation to justify being passed. And even though it wasn’t satisfactory to Republicans, it didn’t matter because Democrats carried 60 seats – enough to overcome a Republican filibuster.

A new study released by the Highway Loss Data Institute has found that, despite recent laws that have cropped up banning hand-held cell phones, the number of auto accidents have not decreased. The institute examined insurance claim records in D.C., New York, Connecticut and California, as well as other areas that lack cell phone bans.

According to a new survey from Nationwide Insurance, approximately 68 percent of homeowners use alternative heating sources to make it through the winter. These alternative heating sources include fireplaces, wood burning stoves and space heaters. But insurer explains that while these sources may help keep homeowners warm, they cause more fires, which could threaten your homeowners insurance and your life.
