While major elements of the Senate health reform bill are discussed daily, not much has been mentioned about a part of the bill that would provide long-term care insurance to the elderly and disabled. This definitely sounds like a great idea for those in need, but the bill would come at a cost to some American workers.

A new report from insurance website Insurance.com revealed that car insurance rates have dropped dramatically in 2009. According to its RateWatch report, insurance rates across the nation have dropped 3.5 percent in $1,803 per year.
Last year’s RateWatch report showed an increase of eight percent in auto insurance rates. However, this year’s drop to $1,803 is actually lower than 2007′s average $1,810 annual insurance cost. According to the auto insurance, this year’s rate cuts have allowed savvy auto insurance shoppers to save money on their premiums when purchasing new policies.

Dogs are playful, affectionate, loyal, protective – and sometimes a major problem for home insurance providers. While home insurance generally covers dog-related incidents, such as bites and attacks, insurers have gotten savvy about various “problem” breeds and have responded by either restricting home insurance coverage or denying it altogether. Policies vary from company to company and state to state, making for a complicated situation that demands the attention of every dog-loving homeowner.

The insurance industry as a whole was hit hard by the financial crisis last year and is now looking for some sort of stability to keep it moving. Unfortunately, a report released on Tuesday by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PWC) revealed that the insurance industry may not see a return in stability for a few years.

Before you head onto the roads this December, remember to combat the practice of driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs as promoted by National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month. Originally getting its start in 1982 by former President Ronald Reagan, the month is dedicated to increasing awareness of this dangerous practice and decreasing the number of injuries and deaths as a result.

As a part of Senate’s ongoing work on the health care bill, they are now discussing ways to expand the Medicare and Medicaid programs. In closed-door negotiations among 10 Democratic senators (five moderates and five liberals), proposals have emerged to break a deadlock that has managed to slow the Senate’s action on the entire health bill.
