A number of states have made it their priority to crack down on texting while driving in 2010. Some states have placed laws on the books that will make itillegal to participate in this practice, starting in the new year.
In 2010, New Hampshire, Oregon and Illinois have all placed bans on texting while driving to help make America’s roads safer. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, these states bring the total count to 19 states that have outlawed this practice. In addition, there are six other states that already prohibit using hand-held cell phones when behind the wheel.
The United States governmentis already on courseto crack down on texting while driving nationwide. While there are no official plans to put a law into place, major organizations have regularly discouraged this dangerous practice. Even more, a study was recently released that detailed the inherent dangers of texting while behind the wheel.
Despite warnings that sending, receiving and composing text messages while operating a vehicle increases the likelihood of getting into an accident due to the distractions it causes, some will drive while texting anyway.
So what about you? Do you think that texting impairs your ability to operate a vehicle? What will you do in 2010?
Don’t text when you drive, it’s a terrible distraction. And what’s the point of texting friends you won’t even see cause you’re dead?If you must text, just pull over!
