Texting While Driving a Major Focal Point in 2010 State Laws
A number of states have made it their priority to crack down on texting while driving in 2010. Some states have placed laws on the books that will make itillegal to participate in this practice, starting in the new year.
States Cracking Down on Texting While Driving
In 2010, New Hampshire, Oregon and Illinois have all placed bans on texting while driving to help make America’s roads safer. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, these states bring the total count to 19 states that have outlawed this practice. In addition, there are six other states that already prohibit using hand-held cell phones when behind the wheel.
Plans to Crack Down Nationwide
The United States governmentis already on courseto crack down on texting while driving nationwide. While there are no official plans to put a law into place, major organizations have regularly discouraged this dangerous practice. Even more, a study was recently released that detailed the inherent dangers of texting while behind the wheel.
Will You Text and Drive in 2010?
Despite warnings that sending, receiving and composing text messages while operating a vehicle increases the likelihood of getting into an accident due to the distractions it causes, some will drive while texting anyway.
